UNIX System V Release 4 shortly after the release, AT & T will sell all of its rights to the UNIX Novell. Novell expect this to counter Microsoft's Windows NT, but its core market have been seriously hurt, Novell will SVR4 eventually sold the rights to the X / OPEN Consortium, which is the standard definition of the UNIX industry groups. Finally X / OPEN and OSF / 1 merger, creating the Open Group. Open Group over the definition of a standard definition of what is and what is not UNIX.

The actual UNIX code is quite to the Santa Cruz Operation, the company was later sold to Caldera Systems. Caldera also sell the original Linux system, the transaction is completed, the new company has been renamed SCO Group.

1127 dissolution of the department
